Call for Papers: Universities Studying Slavery conference

The 1856 Project will be hosting the Universities Studying Slavery (USS) Conference at the University of Maryland in October 2026. As a nod to the U.S semiquincentennial, the theme will be 250 Years of Freedom and Unfreedom: Truth, Liberty, and Justice for All. The conference will highlight the long and interconnected histories of American slavery and freedom.
