Get involved with UMD Students for Parenting & Care

UMD has a new club: SPC Students for Parenting and Care, built with parents, nontraditional students, caregivers and found family fosterers in mind

You may remember a message from the president of the UMD Student Parent Club in a previous newsletter. The club has rebranded as UMD Students for Parenting and Care to better honor their focus for student-parents, non-traditional students, caregiver-students, and students open to fostering found family. They hosted a fit & play event at Maryland Day (maybe some of you stopped by!). The good news is it's not too late to get involved! Club president Amaya Johnson is graduating soon and wants to leave the club on strong footing.

"I need the community in order to make this happen," she writes. "I want to connect with undergraduate students and graduate students who are student-parents, non-traditional students, or open to fostering found family for one reason or another! I myself am an undergraduate student who is a student-parent, nontraditional student, and open to fostering/holding space for found family. We have been working diligently behind the scenes to build and expand this organization and help foster advocacy and community. We have been a force with outreach and engagement efforts because people need to know this exists. If you see this, I see you. If you see this and you do not fit any of the above, please share with your network because we exist, and sometimes that existence is in the background. Whether you want to join the organization or you just want to aid in the mission, contact us. We are grateful for all of the support that we can get."
