Art to honor Lt. Collins
In honor of the 10th academic year anniversary of the murder of Lt. Richard W. Collins III, the Bowie State University-University of Maryland Social Justice Alliance invites all students, artists, faculty, staff, and community members across both campuses and beyond to submit original artwork for a commemorative exhibition at the STAMP Gallery in the fall.
Rich with Love seeks to honor Lt. Collins’ life and legacy by centering love, humanity, remembrance, and justice. This exhibition creates space for reflection on grief, racial violence, resilience, belonging, and community care - resisting the reduction of Black lives to headlines or statistics. Submissions may reflect personal connections to Lt. Collins’ story, broader reflections on anti-Black racism and racialized violence, or imaginative interpretations of what it means to honor life in the face of injustice. Works may be literal or abstract, intimate or communal, historical or forward-looking. All artistic forms are welcome, including visual art, photography, film, poetry, music, dance, and performance. Three cash awards will be given.
Submit your art ideas for the Rich with Love exhibition in honor of Lt. Collins by May 25.
