BISS director b.a. medina published
Co-authors Kristin Gibson (George Mason), Andi Thomas-Sanchez (UC-San Diego) and our very own b.a. medina, director of Bias Incident Support Services, were recently published as part of their work with NASPA’s Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention, Education, and Response Knowledge Community.
An Age of AI and Manifested Masculinities Toward Violent Ends: The Prevalence of Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence can be found on page 57 of NASPA’s 2026 Knowledge Community Publication (PDF).
The article addresses the negative impacts of restrictive ideals of masculinity and how these are amplified in online spaces (the “manosphere”) and through AI tools. The authors also suggest mitigation strategies for educators and student affairs professionals.
This publication is now serendipitously coinciding with both the start of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the recent Louis Theroux’s documentary, though it was (presciently) authored some time ago. Thanks to b.a. and co-authors for sharing this expertise!
