Call for nominations: Excellence in Service Awards with a gold trophy

The Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE) invites the University of Maryland community to submit nominations for university faculty, staff, tutors and mentors who have made outstanding contributions to advancing the inclusive excellence of UMD students on campus.

Nominees will be judged on their service to and involvement with students in the areas of teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and staff support. The letter of nomination should answer the following questions:

  1. Brief, current biographical information about the nominee.
  2. Discuss the nominee's contributions to advancing the inclusive excellence of UMD students at the University of Maryland to include three specific accounts of substantial activity in the past two years. Please include dates.


More specifically, discuss the following as it relates to their service at the University of Maryland:

  • How the individual gives freely and unselfishly of their time to students and/or UMD community activities
  • How the nominee inspires UMD students and acts as a role model
  • How the nominee has had a positive impact on the academic success of UMD student(s)
  • How the nominee improves the lives of others

Note: Current staff members in the Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education are ineligible for the award in the areas of faculty, mentor and staff. However, OMSE tutors are eligible in the tutoring category. Additionally, nominations should come from someone other than the nominee. Incomplete nominations will not be considered.

Submit your nominations for the OMSE Excellence in Service Awards by Monday, March 16.
