UMD Hiring Guidelines for Search & Selection

The updated University of Maryland Hiring Guidelines for Search & Selection are now available for the campus community.

To improve clarity, usability, and navigation, the June 2026 update splits the guidelines into two separate, distinct resources: one tailored for Faculty and another for Staff.

• Role-Specific Documents: Separate guidelines for Faculty and Staff searches for ease of use and clarity.
• Workday Alignment: Updated procedures that seamlessly align with recent Workday system changes and updates.
• Compliance Standards: Refreshed instructions to ensure full compliance with current federal requirements.
• Process Checklists: Brand-new, user-friendly checklists designed to assist hiring managers and committees at every stage of the recruitment and selection process.
• Non-exhaustive list of changes

These guidelines are essential reading for anyone involved in Faculty or Staff hiring (e.g., hiring manager, search recruiters, HR Analysts/Partners, job requisition initiators, search committee chairs, search committee members, interviewers).
